Ultrasound

A diagnostic procedure that uses ultrasounds to create two-dimensional images of the organs.

In our institution, we conduct ultrasounds that allow us to clarify our patient´s most frequent pathologies. It is a strategic tool to detect diseases related with intense abdominal pain and to conduct  a general complete abdominal check-up.

With this procedure we can evaluate the condition of organs such as: liver, gallbladder, bile ducts, pancreas, kidneys, and urinary tracts.

Full abdominal ultrasound

With the use of ultrasounds, the full abdominal ultrasound is a test that allows us to observe the organs and the abdominal structures and even conduct abscesses drainages or take biopsies. The liver, panceas, bile ducts, and spleen are evaluated, to determine size, contour, shape, and echogenicity.

Preparation: A full bladder is required, so the patient will have to consume 1 bottle of water (regular) 2 hours before the procedure and fast for 8 hours. Urine must be retained in the bladder.

Upper Abdominal Ultrasound

A diagnostic procedure that uses ultrasound to check the normality or pathology that affects the organs located in the upper abdomen (liver, bladder, bile ducts, pancreas, kidneys, and spleen). The study evaluates the origin of the abdominal pain or discomfort; it confirms or rules out gallstones or kidney stones, lumps, cysts, tumors, among others.

Preparation: fast for 8 hours before the procedure.

Hepatobiliary Ultrasound

With the use of ultrasounds, a full exploration of the liver, bile and extrahepatic ducts, gallbladders, and pancreas is done. The procedure allows to study different pathologies or alterations such as hepatomegalia, fat accumulation in the liver, benign or malignant lesions, presence of polyps or lumps, signs of pancreatitis, presence or absence of cysts or pseudo cysts.

Preparation: fast for 6 hours before the procedure.

Urinary Tracts and Renal Ultrasound

A diagnostic procedure that uses ultrasound to study both kidneys and the urinary tracts, to determine size, contour, shape, and echogenicity, detect benign and malignant pathologies, gallstones, kidney stones, ectasias, among others.

Preparation: A full bladder is required.
